UK: Heat pump installations in the UK increased by 7% in 2025, compared with growth of 56% in 2024, according to figures published by the country's independent climate advisers. The data formed part of an assessment of the UK's progress in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The slowdown followed the withdrawal of the ECO grant scheme, which had funded heat pump installations for lower-income households. The government continues to offer support through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, which provides grants of GBP 7,500 (USD 10,300) towards installation costs.
The advisers noted that overall, UK emissions continued to decline, although progress in decarbonising home heating remains a challenge. Nearly one-fifth of the country's emissions are linked to residential heating, with most households continuing to use gas boilers. Industry representatives have called for additional support measures and lower operating costs to encourage wider adoption of heat pumps. Bean Beanland, former director of the Heat Pump Association, said: "This transition in our homes is no different to the ones we've had before. Fresh running water in homes, indoor sanitation, central heating, heat pumps. It's just another transition. We have to find a way to make it affordable. And that's the government job."
