Germany: Order intake in Germany's air handling technology sector declined by 5% in real terms during 2025 compared with the previous year, as domestic orders fell by 14%. Foreign markets helped offset weaker demand, with international orders increasing by 5%. The sector recorded a stronger start to 2026, with total order intake during the first quarter rising by 22% year-on-year, supported by a 37% increase in foreign orders. Industry representatives noted that the comparison period in 2025 was characterised by particularly low order volumes.
Exports of general ventilation technology from Germany reached EUR 14.5 billion (USD 16.7 billion) in 2025, an increase of 1% from the previous year. Exports to the United States declined by 5%, while shipments to China fell by 14%. The European Union remained the largest market, accounting for more than half of total exports and recording growth of 2%. Imports totalled approximately EUR 11.6 billion (USD 13.4 billion), including EUR 7.9 billion (USD 9.1 billion) from EU member states. The sector expects revenue growth of around 1% in 2026, supported by international markets and demand within Europe, although geopolitical tensions, protectionist measures, economic conditions and regulatory requirements continue to create uncertainty.
