AUSTRALIA: To support businesses across various sectors and applications, including recreational pool heating, in exploring the viability of energy-efficient heat pump technology, the NSW Government has introduced a new $1 million (US$ 656,700) grants program. Electric heat pumps are considerably more efficient than gas boilers, consuming less energy while generating lower carbon emissions. Whereas a gas boiler typically operates at around 90% efficiency, a heat pump can achieve efficiencies exceeding 400%.
By transitioning to energy-efficient technologies like heat pumps, businesses can reduce energy costs, lower exposure to volatile fossil fuel prices, and decrease carbon emissions. Through the Heat Pump Feasibility Grants, businesses can access up to $30,000 (US$ 19,700), covering 75% of project costs, to support feasibility studies for adopting heat pump solutions.
These studies will enable businesses to make informed decisions regarding the adoption of heat pump technology. Specialist consultants will evaluate the feasibility, practicality, and cost-effectiveness of heat pumps for specific operations, providing expert advice to guide the transition.
The funding is available to NSW businesses that consume between 5,000 and 100,000 gigajoules (GJ) of gas per site annually and meet other eligibility requirements. This initiative is part of the NSW Government’s broader $22 million (US$ 14.4 million) Business Decarbonisation Program, designed to assist businesses in implementing low-cost improvements and practical measures to accelerate progress towards net zero emissions.
