Japan: A shortage of naphtha-linked materials, linked to disruption caused by the Middle East crisis, is beginning to affect air conditioner installation activity in Japan ahead of the summer season. Contractors have reported shortages of products such as pipe covers and rising costs for refrigerant pipes and electrical wiring, creating concerns about their ability to meet seasonal demand. Industry participants have also warned that some installation businesses may struggle to continue operations as material costs increase.
Demand for air conditioners is expected to rise ahead of the implementation of stricter energy-efficiency standards in 2027. Shunsuke Shiina, representative of Shiina Denki, said: “We may soon be unable to install air conditioners.” Consumers have also begun arranging installations earlier than usual in anticipation of higher demand and potential supply constraints during the summer months.
