India: LG Electronics India has introduced a new range of air conditioners that comply with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency star rating norms scheduled to take effect in 2026. The rollout has begun ahead of the summer season, making LG one of the early manufacturers align its residential air conditioner portfolio with the revised efficiency framework. The updated norms issued by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency set stricter limits on power consumption to reduce electricity use and bring domestic standards closer to global benchmarks. Under the new criteria, some air conditioner models that were earlier classified as five star may now fall into lower categories due to tighter efficiency thresholds.
LG stated that the revised ratings reflect tougher benchmarks rather than reduced product performance and are intended to support long term electricity savings for households. The company estimates that consumers using a five star air conditioner compliant with the 2026 norms could save up to US$ 206 in electricity costs over ten years, depending on usage and tariff conditions. The new lineup includes features such as Precool, which uses location based detection through the ThinQ app, and Energy Manager Plus, which tracks past usage and allows users to set operating limits. LG confirmed that the new models have been available in the market since January, while air conditioners manufactured under earlier norms will continue to be sold until existing inventory is exhausted.
