Italy AC Market Shows Mixed Trends in First Half of 2026

Italy: Italy’s air conditioning market recorded a slight decline in the first half of 2026, with turnover reaching EUR 1,790 million (USD 1,950 million), reflecting a marginal contraction compared to the same period in 2025. Sales of mono and multi-split air conditioners declined in both volume and value, with monosplit units falling by 9.8% in volume and 7.8% in value, while multi-split systems declined by 5.5% in volume and 6.9% in value. In contrast, miniVRF and VRF systems reported growth of 12.3% in volume and 13.6% in value, alongside mixed multisplit systems with domestic hot water, which increased by 25.5% in volume and 14.4% in value. Total sales reached approximately 1.65 million units, generating around EUR 1,230 million (USD 1,340 million) in this segment. The weaker residential performance reflected delayed seasonal demand, with higher temperatures occurring toward the end of June, alongside cautious purchasing behaviour and existing inventory levels across the supply chain.

The data also indicates a shift in market composition, with demand moving towards systems with higher technological content and value. Air-to-water heat pumps recorded growth of 25.5% in volume and 14.2% in value, supported by increased uptake of smaller capacity units. Other segments also showed expansion, including portable air conditioners, air handling units, residential ventilation systems and terminal units. The trend suggests gradual changes in purchasing patterns, with increased interest in systems linked to planned installations rather than short-term demand influenced by weather conditions.
