Voltas Partners with Atomberg to Set Up AC Compressor Manufacturing Unit

India: Voltas Ltd has signed a binding term sheet with Atomberg Innovation Ltd to establish a joint venture for the manufacture of high-efficiency compressors and related components for room air conditioners. The proposed facility will be located in Chennai, adjacent to Voltas’ existing air conditioner plant, with an initial capacity of around 2.8 million units. Voltas is expected to act as the anchor customer, while the joint venture will also supply compressors to other manufacturers. The development aligns with ongoing efforts to strengthen domestic manufacturing and reduce dependence on imports in the air conditioning supply chain.
The company stated that the initiative is intended to improve supply chain stability and support production planning by reducing reliance on external suppliers. Voltas also reported a 45% year-on-year increase in room air conditioner volumes in the June quarter, along with a secondary market share of 17.3% for FY27 up to June 2026. In addition, its joint venture with Beko, Voltbek Home Appliances, is focusing on expanding manufacturing capacity and product offerings across categories such as refrigerators, washing machines, microwaves and dishwashers. The proposed transaction remains subject to due diligence, product validation and regulatory approvals.
