Government Funding for Geothermal Heat Pump Workforce Programmes in USA

United States: The United States Department of Energy’s Geothermal Technologies Office has selected eight projects to receive funding of USD 150,000 (EUR 138,000) each to support workforce development in the geothermal heat pump (GHP) sector. The funding forms part of the Partnerships to Accelerate Training and Hiring for Geothermal Heat Pumps (GHP PATHs) programme, which aims to support workforce expansion required for the wider deployment of geothermal heat pump systems for heating and cooling.
The selected projects will develop training and workforce programmes under the second phase of the initiative, with a focus on skills development and workforce entry in the GHP sector. The programme will proceed to a third phase in which projects will be implemented and assessed based on workforce outcomes, with participating teams eligible to receive additional funding ranging from USD 100,000 to USD 400,000 (EUR 92,000–368,000).
