DIY Retail in Germany Sees Positive Growth After Eight-Month Decline
Updated: May 31
Germany: DIY retail in Germany showed signs of recovery in the first quarter of 2024, with a 4.4% increase in sales compared to the same period last year, marking the first rise after eight months of decline. March saw the most significant growth with a 9.6% increase. In total, DIY and garden centres in Germany generated USD 5.15 billion. Austria and Switzerland also experienced positive trends with 2.8% and continued growth respectively. Garden products, particularly garden chemicals, soil, seeds, and living greenery, drove the increase, while segments like tiles and construction materials saw declines. BHB board spokesman Franz-Peter Tepaß remains cautiously optimistic, citing potential boosts from stabilizing inflation, improved wages, and positive consumer sentiment linked to the upcoming European Football Championship.
