USA: Dandelion Energy has announced a major strategic shift, placing greater emphasis on working with production home builders, according to its CEO and chairman, Dan Yates. The decision is driven by two key factors: changing dynamics in the housing market and the company’s ability to reduce installation costs by nearly 40% under this new approach.
Home builders are increasingly looking for high-quality, low-maintenance, all-electric heating and cooling systems as regulatory pressure grows and more homebuyers seek to eliminate carbon emissions and carbon monoxide from their homes. While many builders initially considered air-source heat pumps, these systems have presented challenges. Their performance tends to decline in colder climates, and they can lead to significantly higher electricity bills, which may undermine builders’ promises of efficiency and quality in newly constructed homes.
Geothermal systems help address these issues but have historically faced barriers due to high upfront costs. By concentrating exclusively on new construction projects, Dandelion Energy can significantly lower installation expenses. Since ductwork is already incorporated into the design of new homes, the company avoids costly retrofitting, resulting in no additional indoor installation costs.
