California Launches New Rebates to Cut Home Energy Costs with Heat Pumps
US: Governor Gavin Newsom announced new heat pump rebates under California’s Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates (HEEHRA) program, aimed at helping residents reduce energy costs, improve home efficiency, and cut greenhouse gas emissions. Qualified single-family homeowners may receive up to $8,000 for purchasing and installing energy-efficient heat pumps. For multifamily building owners, rebates for electric appliances became available on October 8, while single-family homeowner rebates launched on November 12, 2024.
Eligibility includes homeowners earning between 80% and 150% of the area median income (AMI) who qualify for up to $4,000, while those earning less than 80% AMI qualify for up to $8,000. Rebates can be combined with other incentives for additional savings. Keishaa Austin of the U.S. Department of Energy praised California’s leadership in rolling out the program, which supports low- and middle-income homeowners in adopting clean, energy-saving technologies.
