Arkema Adds R-134a Replacement to Refrigeration and HVAC Range

Global: Arkema has announced the commercial availability of Forane 516A, a hydrofluoro-olefin (HFO) refrigerant blend developed as an alternative to R-134a in heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems. The refrigerant has a global warming potential (GWP) below 150, an A2L safety classification and zero temperature glide. It is approved under the US Environmental Protection Agency's Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP) programme and is designed for use in equipment requiring refrigerants with lower GWP. Applications include residential and commercial cooling, chillers and commercial refrigeration systems.
Arkema stated that Forane 516A is intended for installation in equipment designed to meet refrigerant regulations and energy efficiency requirements. The company also identified data centre cooling and high-temperature heat pumps as potential applications for the refrigerant. The introduction expands Arkema's portfolio of refrigerant solutions for equipment manufacturers and end users transitioning from R-134a to alternatives with lower GWP.
