Australia: The Victorian government has announced an additional USD 400 rebate for households upgrading to an electric heat pump hot water system, provided they choose an eligible Australian-made product. This is in addition to the existing USD 1,000 rebate available through the Solar Homes Program. Energy Minister Lily D’Ambrosio stated the initiative aims to support local jobs and ensure investment stays within Victoria. The move contrasts with criticism faced by the NSW heat pump incentive scheme, which industry claims has prioritised cheap, imported systems over higher quality Australian-made options.

The Solar Homes Program, run by Solar Victoria, recently received a USD 29.7 million boost from the 2025/26 state budget to further electrification through subsidies for heat pumps, reverse cycle air conditioners, and solar panels. Solar Victoria reports that switching from gas to an efficient electric heat pump can save households up to USD 330 annually on energy bills. Heat pump systems have become the most popular part of the program, with a 151% increase in installations compared to the previous year.
