UK: The Green Heat Network Fund (GHNF) has allocated over US$43 million to four low-carbon heat network projects in England, bringing total funding under the scheme to more than US$480 million.

Building on the US$278 million invested in 2024, this latest round highlights the fund’s broad impact. The selected projects—located in Leeds, London, Maidstone, and Cranbrook—will contribute to the UK’s transition to sustainable heating by enhancing local energy efficiency.

In Leeds, SSE Energy Solutions has secured funding for the Aire Valley Heat and Power Network, which will support businesses across multiple sectors in decarbonizing their heating and electricity supply. As a privately developed network, Aire Valley complements the local authority’s existing infrastructure, underscoring the collaborative role of public and private sectors in advancing sustainable energy solutions.

In Maidstone, Allington Energy Networks will develop a new heat network utilizing waste heat from a local energy recovery facility. Meanwhile, in Central London, the University of London will use funding to decarbonize the southern half of its Bloomsbury campus, benefiting more than 50,000 students at institutions such as University College London (UCL) and SOAS.

East Devon District Council, a previous recipient under the Heat Networks Investment Project (HNIP), will now leverage GHNF support to expand its flagship Cranbrook heat network, which sources energy from waste.
