UK Government To Introduce Fines for Boiler Manufacturers From April 2025

UK: A new scheme set to begin in April 2025 will fine boiler manufacturers if they fail to sell enough heat pumps, which could add EUR 120 (USD 124.8) to the cost of a new boiler. This initiative has been referred to as a "boiler tax." The UK government has been aiming to reduce carbon emissions from home heating, which accounts for a significant share of the country's carbon footprint. Miliband expressed caution, stating he was "wary" of setting a deadline for gas boiler bans unless greener alternatives can be made more affordable. Ed Miliband, the Energy Secretary of the UK, has acknowledged that heat pumps may never be cheaper than gas boilers. While there are no immediate plans to ban gas boilers, Miliband told MPs that a ban "could come into force at some point in the future."
