UNITED STATES: The Tennessee Valley Authority’s EnergyRight program delivered a major boost to heat pump water heater adoption in 2025, rebating more than 10,000 units in the fourth quarter alone. After an initial downstream rebate model failed to gain traction, TVA shifted strategy, ultimately adopting a midstream incentive approach in March 2025 that targeted distributors and retailers. The instant USD 1,300 point-of-sale discount significantly reduced upfront costs, improved product availability, and simplified participation. Results were immediate, with sales surging from just 90 units previously to thousands within months. By late 2025, the program achieved substantial energy savings and market impact. To sustain momentum and funding, TVA will reduce the rebate to USD 900 per unit effective February 15, 2026, while continuing broad market engagement and consumer education.
