The US Department of Energy Finalises Efficiency Standards for Water Heaters
USA: A new water heater energy efficiency standard that will save lives, save utility costs, and reduce pollution was finalised by the US Department of Energy on 30 April 2024.
According to Department of Energy projections, American families will save $124 billion on energy costs over the course of 30 years, with many households saving $200 annually, as a result of the energy savings from this rule.
Additionally, the Department of Energy projects that the rule will, over a 30-year period, prevent:
* Sulphur dioxide emissions into air by 90,000 tonnes. Due to the microscopic particles' ease of entry into the lungs of people, sulphur dioxide causes soot, a very dangerous kind of air pollution that can cause cancer, heart illness, lung disease, and asthma attacks.
* The amount of nitrogen oxides by 665,000 tonnes. Smog, which obstructs views and contributes to health issues including asthma and lowered immunity to colds and lung infections, is produced by nitrogen oxides.
* A lot of pollution contributing to global warming. It is anticipated that increasing the efficiency of water heaters will stop the release of more than 3,000 tonnes of methane and 332 million metric tonnes of carbon dioxide.
