UNITED STATES: Non- residential construction input costs in the US rose 3.2% year on year in 2025, driven largely by tariff-related material price increases, according to Associated Builders and Contractors using data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Overall construction costs increased 2.8%, despite modest price declines in December. Materials most exposed to tariffs saw sharp rises, with copper wire and cable up 22%, while aluminum and steel prices surged more than 30% and 17% respectively.
ABC chief economist Anirban Basu warned costs will keep climbing into 2026. Associated General Contractors of America echoed this view, with chief economist Ken Simonson citing higher tariffs introduced under Donald Trump as a key driver of ongoing cost escalation.
