Nigeria: The Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, has launched the construction of a new housing estate valued at NGN 22 billion (USD 15 million), comprising 500 residential units in Wamakko Local Government Area. The project, situated within the New Sokoto City development zone, includes 300 three-bedroom and 200 four-bedroom flats. The units will be made available on an owner-occupier basis at subsidised rates, with a completion target of 12 months. The housing initiative is being carried out in collaboration with Teamwork Construction Company Nigeria Limited and forms part of the state’s wider urban renewal strategy aimed at supporting civil servants and lower-income households.

Governor Aliyu also stated that his administration had completed another 500 housing units at Gidan Salanke and acquired 130 additional units at Kwannawa from the Federal Ministry of Housing. The state government intends for the new project to contribute to broader infrastructure development, urban planning, and residential accessibility. The Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Usman Ododo, present at the ceremony, acknowledged the efforts and emphasised the role of the Sultan of Sokoto in supporting social stability in the region. The project is part of a wider plan to enhance economic inclusion and improve the state's housing infrastructure.
