Karnataka Government Expands Housing Initiatives with New Targets and Increased Subsidies

India: The government of Karnataka, India, announced that 419,000 houses have been completed since the current administration took office, with an investment of about USD 879 million, and set a target to complete 300,000 additional houses this year. The government will also sanction 100,000 houses under the Beneficiary-Led Construction (BLC) model, increasing subsidies from about USD 1,440 to USD 2,640 for general category beneficiaries and from about USD 2,400 to USD 3,600 for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe beneficiaries. Under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Affordable Housing in Partnership), 129,000 houses are being constructed by the Karnataka Slum Development Board with an additional allocation of about USD 136 million, while 79,134 houses were completed during 2025–26. The government will also distribute 50,000 residential sites at concessional rates under the Namma Mane scheme over the next two years, and beneficiary selection will shift from a manual lottery to an online lottery conducted through Gram Sabhas.
