Czechia: The City of Prague has entered into a cooperation agreement with Czech energy company ČEZ ESCO to modernise the capital’s heating infrastructure. The partnership outlines a long-term framework aimed at ensuring stable and affordable heat supply for residents, while transitioning towards lower-emission energy sources. A dedicated working group comprising city representatives and energy experts has been formed to oversee key strategic initiatives aligned with Prague’s heating strategy through to 2036.
To support these efforts, the city established a new Energy Department on 1 February 2026. The department is responsible for coordinating municipal renewable energy assets and advancing climate protection policies. A key component of the city’s heating network is the Mělník thermal power plant, which currently supplies heat to more than 210,000 locations across Prague.
