Italy’s DIY Market Declines by 3.5% in 2025 Amid Weak Category Performance

ITALY: DIY stores in Italy experienced a noticeable drop in sales in 2025. Overall industry revenues declined by 3.5% to EUR 6.33 billion. This was highlighted in the “GDS Report Monitoraggio Dicembre 2025” published by diyandgarden.com, based on data from GfK-NielsenIQ. The report noted that sales surpassed the previous year’s levels in only four months.
At the product category level, growth was limited, with only six out of 20 categories recording an increase. The paints, wall, and floor coverings segment showed the strongest performance, rising by 16% and contributing 10.5% to total sales. Building materials, the largest category with a 15.4% share, posted modest growth of 1%. Meanwhile, bathrooms and sanitary ware, the second-largest segment with a 13.5% share, saw a 6% decline in sales. Gardening, accounting for 10.7% of total sales, recorded slight growth of 1%.
