USA: Recent federal energy policy changes are introducing fresh uncertainty for HVACR contractors planning projects around electrification and efficiency incentives.
The United States House of Representatives voted 210–199 to pass the Homeowner Energy Freedom Act, a bill that would repeal $5.7 billion in programs under the Inflation Reduction Act supporting home electrification rebates, contractor training, and the adoption of building energy codes. According to reports from E&E News, the legislation would remove incentives linked to heat pumps, energy-efficiency upgrades, and workforce training—programs many HVAC contractors had planned to use for residential projects.
The proposal is part of a broader effort in Congress to scale back federal efficiency and electrification policies, potentially creating uncertainty around rebate-driven demand. For HVACR businesses, the outcome could influence project pipelines, training support, and the adoption of high-efficiency equipment if the bill moves forward in the Senate.
