Nigeria: The federal government of Nigeria has approved new minimum energy performance standards (MEPS) for air conditioners, with nationwide implementation and enforcement of energy labels expected by 2026. These standards were developed under the project “Scaling Up Energy-Efficient and Climate-Friendly Cooling in Nigeria NDC Review. The initiative aims to promote the adoption of energy-efficient air conditioners with low global warming potential (GWP) refrigerants, supporting Nigeria’s commitment to reducing energy intensity by 2.5% annually under its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
