New Zealand: The New Zealand Infrastructure Commission’s latest quarterly update shows that the value of initiatives in the National Infrastructure Pipeline has reached USD 237.1 billion, up USD 30.2 billion from the previous quarter. The Pipeline, which includes over 9,200 projects across central government, local government, and the private sector, provides a national view of current and planned infrastructure ranging from roads and water infrastructure to schools. Projections indicate at least USD 17.5 billion in potential spending for 2025, accounting for around 4% of GDP. The value of initiatives with confirmed funding sources has also grown, rising by USD 13.5 billion to USD 125.1 billion, supported by the inclusion of NZTA highway maintenance programmes and the redevelopment of Christchurch Men’s Prison and Hawkes Bay Prison.
The number of infrastructure providers contributing to the Pipeline continues to increase, with 121 organisations now involved. Efforts are underway to improve the quality and transparency of data, with councils and central government agencies encouraged to update their contributions regularly. Data collection for the September quarter is currently in progress, which will help shape the final National Infrastructure Plan due in December. A comprehensive and growing pipeline is expected to support the construction sector, strengthen the economy, and create more jobs and opportunities across New Zealand.
