Mudiame University Plans Pilot Ceramic Factory in Nigeria
Nigeria: Mudiame University has announced plans to establish a pilot ceramic factory within six months in partnership with several Italian organisations, following engagements at TECNA 2026 in Italy. The initiative aims to support teaching, equipment development, technology transfer and manpower training, alongside the launch of the university’s ceramic engineering programme, which has received approval from the National Universities Commission. The planned facility is intended to provide practical industrial training to students and address gaps in technical knowledge and skilled manpower in Nigeria’s ceramic sector.
The project is also expected to contribute to reducing reliance on imported ceramic products, despite the availability of raw materials such as clay and silica in the country. The university indicated that the collaboration with Italian partners will focus on developing local technical capacity rather than importing machinery alone, covering areas such as production systems, materials processing and automation. The initiative is positioned as part of broader efforts to strengthen industrial capability, support local manufacturing and expand employment opportunities through improved technical expertise.
