LG to Open Heat Pump Research Laboratory in Alaska
LG Electronics Inc. intends to establish the LG Advanced Cold Climate Heat Pump Laboratory in Alaska, United States, with the purpose of conducting research and development on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems that are capable of functioning effectively in extremely low temperature conditions. On Monday, the business made an announcement on the establishment of the Consortium for Advanced Heat-pump Research in collaboration with the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) and the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) in Anchorage, United States.
HVAC products equipped with heat pump technology exhibit subpar performance in extremely cold conditions due to a decrease in the pressure required for refrigerant compression, leading to a diminished circulation of refrigerant. In the arctic regions of Alaska, novel experiments can be undertaken to account for environmental circumstances and factors, like snow, rain, and severe low temperatures, which are unattainable in conventional laboratory settings.
LG Electronics is in the process of establishing a laboratory at the campuses of the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) and the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) with the objective of developing a heat pump capable of operating at optimal efficiency of 100%. The laboratory's interior is designed to resemble a residential setting, featuring a comprehensive arrangement that includes a living area, bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen. The purpose of this laboratory experiment is to conduct testing on heat pump heating and cooling systems, as well as heat pump water heaters, within the company's premises.
The corporation, LG, intends to expand its global research and development units for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) solutions in order to improve the competitiveness of its home appliances industry. This initiative begins with the establishment of the LG Advanced Cold Climate Heat Pump Laboratory.
