Jordan Launches Solar Energy Initiative to Cut Household Electricity Bills
Jordan: The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources of Jordan, Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, has launched a new phase of the country's solar energy support programme, aimed at cutting household electricity bills by 30%. The initiative involves installing 4,000 solar cell systems and 5,000 solar water heater systems, with investments of 8 million and 3 million Jordanian dinars, respectively. This programme is part of Jordan's broader efforts under its Economic Modernisation Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals, aimed at advancing the energy transition and reducing emissions. The government is committed to financial support and optimising the electricity grid to meet the programme's goals. Currently, renewable energy accounts for around 27% of Jordan’s electricity production, with plans to increase this share. Citizens are encouraged to apply through the "Initial Inclusion" platform, promoting transparency and adherence to technical standards.
