Spain Launches USD 399 Grant Program to Support Air Conditioner Upgrades in 2025

Spain: As summer heats up, Spain is taking steps to help households stay cool and energy efficient. The Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving has introduced a EUR 300 (339 USD) grant under the Air Conditioning Renewal Plan 2025, aimed at replacing old, inefficient air conditioning units with modern, eco-friendly systems. This initiative supports the government’s broader goals of reducing energy consumption and lowering greenhouse gas emissions.
The grant amount varies by region. In Madrid, residents can receive up to EUR 300 (339 USD), covering 60% of the purchase price. Aragón offers between EUR 150 (170 USD) and EUR 300 (339 USD), covering 25% of the unit's cost. Barcelona is expected to join the program again by mid-2025, as it did the previous year. Other regions across Spain are anticipated to implement similar incentives, with details to be announced by respective local authorities.
To qualify, applicants must replace an AC unit older than five years with a new one rated at least A+ for cooling and A for heating. They must also ensure the old unit is properly recycled and installation is carried out by an authorized installer, such as those approved under Madrid’s Plan Cambia 360. Additionally, applicants must have no outstanding tax debts and must not be receiving any other grant for the same installation. The application period for 2025 is expected to open around June or July.
