Israel Passes Law Mandating Solar Panels on New Buildings
Israel: Israel’s Ministry of Energy has approved regulations that mandate the installation of solar energy systems on all new non-residential buildings and residential detached houses. The new rules apply to buildings with roof areas of at least 250 m² for non-residential and 100 m² for residential detached houses, with each solar system required to have a minimum capacity of 5 kW. The Ministry estimates that this initiative will result in the installation of tens of thousands of renewable energy facilities, contributing up to 3.5 GW of installed capacity by 2040. The law aims to save money for residents, ensure electricity availability during emergencies, enhance Israel's energy independence, and reduce air pollution. Solar energy is already widely used in Israel, particularly for domestic hot water, with solar water heaters being mandatory in all new residential buildings since 1980.
