INDIA: Climate-tech startup Optimist has developed a next-generation air conditioner capable of operating efficiently in temperatures up to 50°C, following an 18-month collaboration with IIT Delhi. The system has successfully completed pilot testing and is moving toward market launch as rising heat intensifies demand for resilient cooling solutions. The partnership focused on advanced engineering, including HVAC simulation tools, digital twin systems and heat exchanger design to validate performance under extreme conditions.

Pranav Chopra, co-founder and CTO of Optimist, said, “The combination of India’s severe heat (up to 50°C), low per capita GDP, and high population density creates a uniquely difficult problem.” Early pilot results indicate the system can deliver effective cooling at 50°C while maintaining high energy efficiency.
