IIR Publishes Briefing Note on Dehumidification Technologies for Energy-Efficient Air Conditioning

Global: The International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR) has published "Dehumidification in Air Conditioning," the 62nd note in its Briefing Notes on Refrigeration Technologies series, highlighting the role of moisture removal in improving indoor comfort and HVAC energy efficiency. The report notes that, in hot and humid climates, HVAC systems can account for more than 50% of a building’s total energy consumption, with more than half of that used for dehumidification rather than cooling. It reviews condensing, liquid desiccant, solid desiccant and emerging membrane-based dehumidification technologies, while recommending greater focus on humidity regulation, accelerated deployment of high-performance systems in rapidly growing markets, and stronger support for emerging technologies and international standards for humidity control.
