Home Energy Rebates Kick Off in New Mexico, Offering Up to $14,000 in Savings
United States (New Mexico): New Mexico has launched its first Home Energy Rebates program under the federal Inflation Reduction Act, starting with the Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates (HEAR) component. This initiative aims to help low- and middle-income households enhance energy efficiency by offering rebates on upgrades like insulation, air-sealing, and heat pumps.
Currently, low-income single-family homeowners can receive up to $1,600 off insulation purchases at participating retailers. As the HEAR program expands, low-income homeowners and low- to middle-income renters can access rebates up to $14,000 for various upgrades, including:
$8,000 for an Energy Star-certified electric heat pump
$4,000 for an electrical panel
$2,500 for electrical wiring
$1,750 for an Energy Star heat-pump water heater
$1,600 for insulation, air sealing, and ventilation products
$840 for an Energy Star heat-pump dryer, electric stove, or oven.
New Mexico’s Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department emphasizes the program’s importance in supporting New Mexicans' participation in the clean energy transition, contributing to the state’s clean-energy goals. A second component, the Home Efficiency Rebates (HER or HOMES), will follow, providing more options for savings on whole-home energy reductions.
