University Closures to Reduce Energy Use

Bangladesh: The Ministry of Education in Bangladesh has directed all public and private universities in the country to remain closed from 9 March 2026 as part of measures university Closures to Reduce Energyand fuel consumption. The decision was issued following instructions from the Cabinet Division. According to the directive, universities will remain closed until the start of their scheduled Eid-ul-Fitr holidays as indicated in their academic calendars.


The ministry also issued guidelines to promote energy conservation across university campuses. Institutions have been instructed to limit the use of electric lighting during the daytime, rely on natural light where possible, and reduce the number of lights and electrical devices in operation. The directive also calls for switching off unused equipment such as fans and air conditioners, maintaining air-conditioning temperatures at 25 degrees Celsius or above, avoiding decorative lighting and reducing the use of vehicles to lower fuel consumption.
