India: Chinese consumer electronics company Hisense has commissioned its first india manufacturing plant through a joint venture with Epack Manufacturing Technologies, a subsidiary of Epack Durable, at Sri City, Andhra Pradesh. Spread across 10 acres within Epack Durable’s industrial park, the plant has been developed with an investment of over USD 30 million and will begin commercial production in February 2026. The facility will initially manufacture room air conditioners (RACs) exclusively for Hisense India and is expected to account for 100% of the company’s RAC production in the country, with an initial installed capacity of 0.75 million units annually. Pilot production is currently underway, with manufacturing being implemented in phases.
Phase 1 focuses on air conditioners, while Phase 2, scheduled for Q2 FY27, will add washing machines, followed by LED television production in Phase 3 from Q3 FY27. The plant currently employs around 500 people, with the workforce expected to expand to nearly 1,500 over the next 12–24 months as additional product lines are introduced. Serving both domestic and export markets, the Sri City facility will help localize production, enhance supply-chain efficiency, and reduce import dependence, marking Hisense’s transition from an import-led and partner-based model to a locally integrated manufacturing setup in India.
