Heat Pump Sales Plummet due to Inquiries From Consumers
Netherlands: According to the AD on Wednesday afternoon, the sale of heat pumps—which were intended to take the place of conventional gas-fired central heating boilers—has dropped this year as a result of cheap gas prices, political unpredictability, and customer concerns.
The Heat Pump Manufacturers Association (DVW) reports a halving of sales on an annual basis. Customers purchased 42,000 heat pumps in the first quarter of 2023; but, during the same period this year, they only purchased 20,000.
Numerous factors contribute to the downturn, not the least of which is the halt in the building of new homes. Furthermore, the report stated that because gas prices have decreased, it will take longer to recoup the investment.
It was revealed earlier this year that solar panel sales are declining due to concerns over cost, and that sales of electric automobiles are similarly at a standstill.
Approximately three times as much as a gas boiler, a hybrid heat pump ranges in price from €6,000 to €12,000. Subsidies allow households to recoup around one-third of the cost, but many will also require improved insulation before owners see a reduction in their heating expenses.
