Haier Considers Major Expansion in Thailand
Thailand: Haier is exploring plans to expand its manufacturing operations in Thailand with a proposed investment exceeding THB 10 billion (USD 292 million) this year. Discussions with the Thai government are ongoing, and the potential facility is expected to focus on producing washing machines, large refrigerators, and commercial air conditioners. The factory will incorporate advanced automation systems to reduce reliance on manual labour. Detailed announcements regarding the project are anticipated in May. Haier has clarified that this expansion aligns with its strategy to localise production and meet regional consumer needs, rather than signalling a shift away from its Chinese manufacturing base.
The company currently operates a factory in Prachin Buri province and is constructing an air conditioner plant in Chon Buri, set to begin operations in October 2025. This facility is projected to produce 3 million units annually by 2026, with plans to double production by 2027, exporting 70% of its output. Haier reported sales of THB 11 billion (USD 321 million) in 2024 and aims to increase this figure to THB 14 billion (USD 409 million) in 2025, driven by growth across all product segments, including air conditioners and refrigerators.
