Germany hits 356,000 heat pump installations in 2023
Approximately 356,000 heat pumps were sold in Germany last year, according to data from the German Heat Pump Association (BWP). In contrast, the nation sent out over 236,000 units in 2022. According to the trade association, heat pump sales increased by over 50% in the previous year for the second consecutive year. Claus Fest, CEO of BWP, stated, "This year must not be a wasted year for the heating transition." Sales soared in the first half of 2023, but the Buildings Energy Act controversy lasted a long time and was extremely damaging. Additionally, the market was notably paralysed while waiting for the new finance framework, particularly in the last quarter. The goal of 500,000 heat pumps set by the federal government would be reached this year if our capacities were any indication. Fest claims that in recent years, the sector has made investments in training capacity, manufacturing growth, and preparation for the heat pump ramp-up. He added it is also possible to aim for six million heat pumps by 2030 as part of climate policy.
