EnerCube and Panasonic Partner on Heat Pump Heating Units

Germany and Austria: EnerCube has partnered with Panasonic to develop a new series of prefabricated heat pump heating units for commercial, industrial and municipal buildings. The units, known as Cubes, are factory-built systems that incorporate heat pumps, heating technology, controls and sound insulation before being installed outside a building and connected to its heating system. The new series integrates Panasonic’s Big Aquarea M air-source heat pumps, manufactured at its facility in Pilsen, Czech Republic. The units can provide heating, cooling and hot water, with the new series offering up to 180 kW of heat pump capacity. The partnership is scheduled to support a market launch in Germany and Austria from 2027.
EnerCube will continue to develop and manufacture the complete heating units, while sales will be handled through EnerCube, Panasonic and other partners. The company has primarily focused on apartment buildings and residential real estate but plans to extend its offering to larger buildings. EnerCube was founded in 2023 and currently manufactures its Cubes through a production partner in Aachen, Germany. Its largest customer to date is Vonovia, which plans to purchase more than 1,000 units through 2029 and holds around 10% of EnerCube. The partnership comes as European heat pump demand has increased, although market conditions vary between countries. According to the European Heat Pump Association, European heat pump sales increased by 17% in the first quarter, while Austria recorded a 30% decline during the same period. The companies are positioning the new units as an option for replacing heating systems across larger building portfolios.
