Ceramic Tile Industry Raises Concerns Over Import Duty Reductions

Pakistan: The All Pakistan Ceramic Tiles Manufacturers Association has raised concerns over the government's decision to reduce import duties on ceramic tiles under the second phase of the tariff rationalisation policy announced in the 2026–27 budget. According to the association, the Regulatory Duty on imported tiles has been reduced by 20% and the Additional Customs Duty by 50%, a move it believes could weaken the competitiveness of domestic manufacturers.

The association stated that the lower duties on imported finished goods could place additional pressure on local producers, many of whom are already facing challenging operating conditions. Industry sources indicated that Pakistan's ceramic tile sector is currently operating at around 50% of its installed production capacity due to slower construction activity, high energy costs, expensive financing and the broader economic slowdown.
