Canada: Canada’s heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) industry has welcomed a federal investment of $2 billion to support home retrofits, including rebates for households switching to heat pumps. Prime Minister Mark Carney announced the eight-year initiative on October 8 at Innovair Solutions’ facility in Sherbrooke, Quebec. The programme aims to support one million home retrofits nationwide through energy-efficiency upgrades and improvements to heating systems.

The National Heat Pump Rebate programme, scheduled to launch in January 2027, is expected to help up to 820,000 households transition to heat pumps. Proposed rebates include up to CAD 10,000 for low-income households and CAD 2,000 for other eligible households. The programme also aims to simplify the application process by removing the requirement for a prior energy audit. The Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI), which represents approximately 1,200 member companies, stated that it had collaborated with federal officials to help shape the initiative.
