India: Blue Star Managing Director B Thiagarajan stated that nearly 70% of the company’s sales now come from non-metro cities. This shift is driven by rising disposable incomes, increased demand for air conditioners, and warmer climate conditions in smaller cities and towns. He noted that rising temperatures across India are influencing consumer behaviour, leading to stronger sales in residential cooling products. Despite this growth trend, the company experienced a 25% decline in sales in FY2024-25 as compared to the previous year when it saw 57% growth, largely due to an unusual summer marked by early rainfall and erratic weather patterns that impacted the overall electronics market.
The company is also expanding its manufacturing capacity to meet growing demand, with a new facility in Sri City focused on producing room ACs and deep freezers. Thiagarajan emphasized that tier-2, tier-3, and even rural markets have become key contributors to growth. Additionally, Blue Star is seeing encouraging trends in commercial and industrial segments, driven by infrastructure development and rising demand from sectors such as retail and hospitality.
