India: Blue Star expects its room air conditioner sales to exceed earlier forecasts for the current financial year, supported by government plans to reduce consumption taxes on appliances from October. The company had projected growth of 10 to 15 per cent in sales volumes up to March but now anticipates an increase of up to 20 per cent. The tax on air conditioners currently stands at 28 per cent, and a reduction is expected to provide relief for both dealers and manufacturers, who have faced weaker demand due to a cooler summer.
The unitary products division, which includes room air conditioners and commercial refrigeration systems, accounted for almost half of Blue Star’s revenue of ₹11,977 crore (1.37 billion USD) in the previous financial year. The company held an estimated 14 per cent share of the room air conditioner market during that period.
