Australia: Data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows that construction activity for new dwellings increased over the past year, though it remains below levels required to meet government housing targets. Dwelling commencements in the twelve months to September 2025 rose by 11.2 percent. The data indicates that housing demand continues to outpace supply, with delivery constraints identified as a key factor influencing construction outcomes
According to the statistics agency, there were 230,003 dwellings under construction during the September quarter, including 87,323 new houses. Over the same period, the total number of dwellings completed increased by 7.5 percent. Factors such as land availability, infrastructure scheduling, planning processes and workforce capacity were cited as having a greater influence on housing supply conditions heading into 2026 than interest rate movements.
