AIT Launches US$3.4 Million State-of-the-Art Heat Pump Laboratory

AUSTRIA: The Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT) has officially inaugurated what it describes as Austria’s most advanced heat pump laboratory.
Completed this month after a year of construction and a US$3.4 million investment, the facility features test benches for systems with heating capacities up to 100 kW, primarily catering to the expanding commercial and large-scale building sectors. The laboratory focuses on air-source heat pumps across all relevant refrigerant types, including flammable classes.
State-of-the-art equipment also enables sound optimization and supports dynamic operation in conjunction with simulation models. With around 25 years of experience and over 700 heat pump systems tested, AIT is recognized as one of Europe’s leading research institutions in the field.
