Air Conditioner Prices in India Rise Ahead of Summer Season

India: Room air conditioner manufacturers in India have announced price increases ranging from 5% to 15% between February and April 2026, ahead of the summer season. The adjustments are linked to higher raw material costs, including copper and aluminium, increased freight charges, currency depreciation and the introduction of revised energy-efficiency standards under the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE). Manufacturers across the market have introduced price revisions across several product models as input costs have risen during recent months.

Industry participants expect demand to increase during the 2026 summer period following a weaker performance in 2025, when unseasonal rainfall affected sales. The revised BEE star rating standards, implemented from 1 January 2026, have also resulted in higher production costs as newer models are required to deliver improved energy efficiency. The Indian room air conditioner market is estimated to be around 13.5 million units, with multiple manufacturers competing for market share as seasonal demand strengthens.
