India: India's sweltering summer has triggered a surge in demand for appliances that combat the heat. Air conditioner (AC) sales have witnessed a particularly sharp rise, jumping 25% compared to last year. This comes after a period of steady but slower growth, market increasing by 15% annually between 2021 and 2023. This year's exceptional heatwave, with temperatures reaching unbearable levels early in the season, has driven consumers to seek relief through AC purchases. Industry leaders like Blue Star are reporting strong growth, attributing it to the early onset of summer heat, particularly in southern and western India. Companies are ramping up production to meet this unexpected demand. Additionally, government initiatives like the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme are helping to keep AC prices competitive, further boosting sales. This positive trend is expected to continue throughout the year.
