UK: Home improvement retailer Wickes is set to take over the leases of four former Homebase stores in Dunfermline, Bury St Edmunds, Leeds Moor Allerton, and Northampton, securing more than 55 jobs. These stores will reopen later this year under the Wickes brand, following a refit and modernization to align with the company's new store format. The transition will take effect on March 3 for three of the locations, with all employees retaining their jobs as Wickes staff. The Northampton store, whose lease was secured in July 2024 before Homebase entered administration, is currently closed for redevelopment.
This expansion aligns with Wickes’ strategy to grow its presence in new catchment areas where it previously had no stores. The acquisition of these locations reinforces the company’s commitment to helping more customers with home improvement projects. Homebase, which faced financial difficulties in late 2024, was largely acquired by CDS Superstores, the parent company of The Range and Wilko, securing up to 70 of its stores.
