Washington State Allocates USD 40 Million to Promote Electric Heat Pump Adoption

USA: Washington state is making a significant investment in clean energy by allocating nearly USD 40 million in grants to help homes and businesses transition from fossil fuel heating to electric heat pump systems, which offer both heating and cooling. This initiative specifically targets low-income residents and communities disproportionately affected by climate change.

King County, which includes Seattle and several tech hubs, will receive USD 2.6 million to install heat pumps in low-income homes and daycare centers. Additionally, both Seattle and Energy Smart Eastside will each receive close to USD 3.2 million for similar programs.

This funding is provided by the Climate Commitment Act, designed to limit emissions from major polluters. However, it is important to note that Initiative 2117, which is on the upcoming ballot, proposes to eliminate this act.
