Urban Company Receives Approval to Explore Residential Air Conditioner Market
India: Urban Company has received in-principal approval from its board to explore residential air conditioners as a new business under its Native brand. The company, which already offers water purifiers and smart locks under the brand, plans to assess opportunities in the residential cooling market. The proposed entry would place it in a segment served by established manufacturers, including Samsung, Daikin, Godrej and Voltas. The company stated that its existing service network and customer insights could help it identify product gaps and consumer requirements.
The board's approval covers exploration of the new business, while the commercial launch and any associated capital expenditure remain subject to further evaluation and approval. The announcement was made alongside the board's approval of unaudited financial results for the quarter and half-year ended 30 September 2026. The board also approved a proposal to raise up to INR 2,500 crore (approximately USD 271 million) through equity shares or securities convertible into equity, subject to shareholder and regulatory approvals.
